DonQuixote 300x300 Dr Quixote MP, PN

"Dr Debono had earlier today challenged the Prime Minister to a public debate on any subject anywhere and anytime.

His only condition, he said, was that the Prime Minister should be accompanied by at least another two ministers. He, Dr Debono said, would be on his own."

If this is an accurate report, all I can say is that this man, lawyer and member of parliament has Quixotic delusions.

Ambassador greets potatoes

Some ambassadors meet royalty, others dine with powerful presidents but our ambassador to the Netherlands gets to greet potatoes!

The company was today visited by Malta's Ambassador to the Netherlands Martin Valentino and Malta's consul general in Breda Herman Stevens to welcome the arrival of some 100 tons of potatoes. -  Source: http://www.timesofmalta.com/articles/view/20120322/local/maltese-potatoes-make-it-to-the-netherlands.412324

ASICS “I am made of blazing trails”

2011 CCC Mont Blanc winner Emmanuel Gault explains how trail running is just as much about challenging yourself as it is about challenging nature.

A smoking contradiction

Both smartly dressed in shades of black, wearing black shades and with blue denim, branded jeans to break the monochrome look. Both made up but the make up is discreet. Both order drinks, orange juice which arrives blood red, strictly of the fresh variety. Both here for a lunch of rioting colour - salads that would make any vegetarian green with envy. Both renounce on the expected coffee and cake that concludes most meals here, opting instead for sparkling water. Yes, Perrier. Both are smart enough to keep their smart phones in their leather bags (lined with a logo which I'm vaguely familiar with) throughout the meal. Gazing occasionally at the both of them is like ointment for my eyes, sore with researching material for some poetry in progress.

There is a fly. Actually a whole pack of them. Slim as coffin nails. Filterless to boot. Their fug hung low over the table throughout.

JBP-401 is not a gentleman’s car

I'm not a perfect driver, I've made my share of mistakes. Sometimes the wrong manoveur or lapse of attention occurs on an empty street, which means that no one is affected by it. On the other hand, if another road user is involved, I make it a point to acknowledge my error while thanking my lucky stars that no damage was done.

Today, the error was committed by the driver of a sparkling clean, blue Mini Cooper - JBP 401. In order to avoid the red lights, he made a split-second, unannounced decision to change direction - a direction which almost took him into me and my Piaggio scooter. It was shocking enough to find myself about to be run down by a driver oblivious to my presence but what really made me livid was his reaction when he realised what he had nearly done. He pulled up alongside, put down the passenger window where his son was sitting and instead of offering an apology, he actually berated me instead!

That's a lovely car you have, sir. Pity about your lack of gentlemanly conduct.
